The importance of sleep
When you are an athlete, student, worker, etc., you must
take care of something significant: sleep. But why is sleep so important?
First, a healthy amount of sleep is vital for "brain plasticity," or
the brain's ability to adapt to input. If we sleep too little, we cannot
process what we've learned during the day and have more trouble remembering it
in the future. That is why I want to talk about this topic since people put
aside something so crucial for human beings that it helps us with our day and
lives.
Sleeping might sound like something very easy for everyone,
but when you ask someone that question, they will most likely answer that they
sleep between 5 to 7 hours. Something that is not right to do since we should
sleep at least 8 hours a day. But each person will depend on the hours they
sleep since age represents and makes us sleep more or fewer hours. Older adults
are usually the people who sleep fewer hours than usual. They usually sleep between
2 to 2 and a half hours less than normal. However, adolescents depend greatly
on their life and mentality since they will know why they sleep less or more
hours than they should. Researchers
say that adequate sleep is crucial for staying healthy. People can have
different needs in terms of how much they require. University of California at
San Francisco researchers Ying-Hui Fu and Louis Ptáček discovered a short
sleeping gene in 2009. Because of a bad dream or not being able to sleep well
one night, you will most likely have problems focusing on your things and other
things.
Finally, the hours of sleep will always depend on each
person since each has their own life and knows what to do. Even if you present
symptoms such as illness, energy, and other things, you are to blame since we
have to start thinking that the hours of sleep are the ones that could define
our next day as well as our attitude, feelings, etc.
Hi Michael!
ReplyDeleteI think it is very important that the benefits and how crucial sleep can be are discussed frequently. Many people try to ignore sleep by drinking energy drinks or consuming large amounts of caffeine which only makes sleep schedules worse. Sleeping is definitely something I need to work on myself in order to focus at my best.
Sleep is one of the most important things but it is true there are some people who are just natural short sleepers.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who has to stay up late on the weekends to catch up with my English homework, I know not getting enough sleep can be a serious problem. Especially when having to write an entire mini essay.. I mean “blog post” almost every weekend on top of everything else, sleep can be quite an important thing. But this is just my personal disposition, like said in this article sleep tends to be a personal matter; being different depending on the person.
Hello Michael, I did not know that a bad dream can cause issues for you the next day. Sleep is very important for one’s health so I will try to incorporate more hours of sleep into my schedule. I recently have been dealing with the effects of not sleeping enough so it is my goal to improve my sleeping schedule.
